What is a Quiz
Night?
A quiz night is a typical British pub activity. It
involves teams of people answering questions on a range of
subjects, from sport to music, general knowledge to history. On
this night, we'll allocate the teams to encourage people to
mingle and socialise - so singles, couples, etc. are more than
welcome. At the end of the evening, a quiz night is about
socialising, having fun, using your brain and some friendly
competition - everything will be clear on the night.
The evening is open to all people, of all ages and all
nationalities. Please note though, questions will be in English
and some may be biased towards British history and culture (not
many though!). Based on the evening's success and popularity,
the BCC will endeavour to organise more quiz nights so you and
your friends can create your own team and enter as a group.
What do I do to sign
up?
There are no tickets for this event, so just turn up on
the night with 5TL entry money (and money to buy your own
drinks/food). The quiz will start at 8:30pm promptly, so we
recommend you arrive for 8pm so you can meet your fellow team
mates. If you miss the start of the quiz, you will not be
allowed to participate. Furthermore, you will be told to stand
in a corner by yourself and contribute 10TL to the BCC charity
fund. To help the venue with staffing, please email
elp@emc.eu.com to confirm
you are coming.
What about the Elma
Cafe and Pub?
The Elma Cafe and Pub (also known as Beer City) is in the
centre of Besiktas, located just next to the fish market and so
is easily reached from most parts of Istanbul. It has a good
pub-like atmosphere and serves a wide range of food and drink at
reasonable prices. 70cl of beer costs 8YTL, main meals range
from 8-20TL. Please note though, that large numbers of people
may mean food service is slow - you may be better eating before
you come. We do not have exclusive use of the pub so mixing with
the locals will just add to the atmosphere.
For exact directions, have a look at their website:

Where does the
money go?
We are asking 5TL entry fee which will entitle you
participate in the quiz. This money will cover the basic costs
of the quiz such as photocopying and prizes with the rest of the
money donated to BCC charities. These include helping
Commonwealth pensioners in Istanbul with medical bills and
pensions, helping local charities such as the Childrens' ward at
Goztepe Hospital and providing wheelchairs for severely disabled
Turks. Do find out more about the
BCC and what we do.
So don't
forget to let us know you're coming.
We looking forward to taxing your brains
on Saturday 31st January 2009!
